Synthesis and Structure of Gallium Siloxane Cages: Model Substances for Gallium-Containing Silicates

Silicates arc used as catalysts in a number of industrial processes. The breakthrough of zeolites, in particular, into technical applications is due to their easily variable characteristic such as form-selectmty. acidity, and temperature stability. The acidity, and the catalytic properties associated with it, can be altered by isomorphic substitution of Si or Al atoms of the zeolite lattice with other elements. In general, these solids have only been characterized by X-ray powder diffraction. As a result, the local structure at the catalytic center is not known. It is therefore appropriate to use model compounds in order to describe this structure more clearly.
