摘要

The donor/acceptor concept has gained fundamental mean ing Cor the chemistry and the physics of dyes because it describes both the absorption and the nonlinear optical (NLO) effects (e.g. molecular hyperpolarization) of compounds with auxochromic andantiauxochromic groups. Donor and acceptor subunits not only lead to the polarizution of conjugated π-elec tron systems, they can also participate in the exchange of elec trons, resulting in the formation of radical cations and radical anions.
