Ta_5(S,Te)_2: Microporous Tantalum with Chalcogen-Coated Inner Surfaces

The structural chemistry of tantalum-rich chalcogenides is dominated by the competition between two basic building principles. On one hand, chalcogenides are known that fragmentar-ily contain the body-centered cubic (bcc) arrangement of the metal components. The prototype is Ta_2Se. This layered structure, which is symmetry related to bcc tantalum, consists of two-dimensional bcc-Ta fragments.
