Since the discovery of stable multiply bonded silicon compounds in 1981, the synthesis and reactivity of silenes (R2Si= CR2) has been a major focus of research and many review articles have been published on this matter. However, despite the level of activity in this field, there is little understanding of the radical chemistry of silenes.
