Biocatalysis is increasingly seen as a viable option for performing chemical transformations in the laboratory and on an industrial scale.Although nature provides a wealth of catalysts for such applications,natural enzymes may be unavailable or otherwise unsuitable for specific reactions of interest.For this reason,tailoring the properties of existing enzyme scaffolds to access altered or completely new activities has attracted considerable attention.
