A Tungsten-Tin Mixed Hydroxide as an Efficient Heterogeneous Catalyst for Dehydration of Aldoximes to Nitriles

Nitriles are versatile synthetic intermediates for pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals, and dyes. A nucleophilic substitution of alkyl halides with a stoichiometric amount of inorganic cyanide is a general method for the synthesis of alkyl nitriles, which is frequently accompanied by the elimination of hydrogen halides, especially with bulky alkyl halides. Aromatic nitriles (benzonitriles) can be synthesized by the Sandmeyer reaction and ammoxidation.
