Dinoflagellates of the genus Amphidinium are exceptionally rich sources of bioactive secondary metabolites.Generally referred to as "amphidinolides",the ensemble of complex macrolides of mixed polyketide origin derived from these microalgae has evoked considerable interest in the synthetic and bio-organic chemistry communities.
