Progress in Oligosaccharide Synthesis through a New Orthogonal Glycosylation Strategy

摘要

Glycoconjugates have numerous important biological functions. For a better understanding of these functions, defined natural and modified glycoconiugates are needed. To this end, intensive efforts in the last few years have been aimed at the synthesisof glycoconjugates, resulting in remarkable progress in oligosaccharide synthesis. New glycosylation methods have been developed with efficient leaving groups, which lead to good yields and high stereoselectivity under mild conditions. The halide, thioglycoside, and trichloroacetimidate methods, in modified forms, have proved to be especially effective. Chemical and enzymatic reactions can also be combined, as long as the glycosyl transferases and the activated nucleotide sugar are available.
