摘要

The hydrogenolysis of a M-C bond by molecular hydrogen to form a metal hydride and a hydrocarbon is a key transformation in the orgunometallic chemistry of transition metals and a fundamental step in both catalysis and metal-promoted organic synthesis. In contrast, only very little is known about the reaction of H_2 with M - X bonds (X = heteroatom) in spite of the great possibilities that can be envisioned for catalysis. This challenging new aspect of molecular catalysis is now the target of activeresearch, though almost exclusively with the late transition metals.
