摘要

The concept of the metal-ion-sandwiching cylindrophane was advanced in 1998 and realized the following year.The idea was straightforward,that is,that a trigonal-planar heteroatom ligand set could be built into a [l,3,5]cyclophane (1),wherein the two benzene rings would act as a barrier to any metals which could not penetrate the aromatic van der Waals space.Macrocycles such as 1,which have chains with odd numbers of atoms between the aromatic rings,are known to show exceptional confor-mational stability.
