Helicenes are nonplanar ortho-iused aromatic compounds with helical chirality. Their extraordinary optical and electronic properties have been of interest for a long time. During the last decade, studies have been carried out toward their application in asymmetric synthesis, molecular recognition, and materials science, for example, as liquid crystals, sensors, and dyes.
