The catalytic asymmetric addition of organometallic reagents to carbonyl compounds is a reaction of fundamental importance in modern synthetic organic chemistry Less reactive reagents,typically diorganozinc derivatives,are used to achieve this transformation because a direct,noncatalyzed reaction would deminish the enantioselectivity.The reac-tion of Grignard reagents with carbonyl compounds is one of the most reliable methods for forming carbon-carbon bonds.
