摘要

Activation of carbon dioxide and its conversion into useful products still remains a fascinating challenge facing chemists. Considerable progress has been made recently, but additional. intense effort is required "to put together the pieces of the mosaic". Gas-phase ion chemistry can substantially contribute to investigations on fundamental aspects of CO_2 activation and, in addition, may provide suggestions for novel synthetic procedures. Thus, the recently reported Ta~+-mediated coupling of CH_4 and CO_2 in the gas phase has to be regarded with respect to the catalytic formation of acetic acid.
