Total Synthesis of the Marine Natural Product rac-Dibromophakellstatin

Pyrrole-imidazole alkaloids from marine sponges constitute a family of over 100 natural products.Some of them have an important ecological function in the chemical defense against fish,bacteria,and corals.Moreover,a number of interesting pharmacological activities of the pyrrole-imidazole alkaloids have been reported.Among them,the cytotoxicity of dibromophakellstatin(1)and the immunosuppressive activity of palau'amine(2)are remarkable(Figure 1).
