摘要

The results presented here form part of a study of the infinite two- (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) coordination networks derived from a family of 4-pyridyl-eontaining building blocks such as 1, 2 (hereafter tpt). and 3 amongst others. This sort of investigation may lay the foundations for much more rational crystal engineering than is presently possible, allowing the future design and construction of solids with tailor-made properties (e.g. catalytic or electronic). Fujita et al. have recently madethe very significant observation that a cadmium-containing 2D square grid network derived from 1 that we originally reported has catalytic properties, whilst PtS-related networks obtained, by design, from 3 generate very large channels with obvious implications for catalysis.
