Synthesis, Structure, and Decay of In_4Br_7

In the In/Br binary system, the phases InBr, In_5Br_7 (= InBr_(1.4) )In_2Br_3(= InBr_(1.5)). InBr_2, and InBr, have been recently characterized by crystallographic structure determination. Thr reduced binary indium bromides in particular are of interest to theoretical chemistry because of their relatively low chemical stability (e.g. toward air and moisture), their weak In~+- Br~- bonds, and their slight electrophilic tendency.
