New allotropic forms of carbon like C_(60) 1 and higher fuller-enes are currently a popular research topic. Alkali metal doped C_(60)-fullerenes, in particular, have attracted considerable attention due to their superconductivity at low temperatures.Corannulene 2, the smallest complete subunit of C_(60) with a curved molecular surface, consists of a five-membered ring fully surrounded by six-membered rings. Its alkali metal derivatives have also been studied extensively.
