Since the discovery of multi-walled[1] and single-walled[2] carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) by Iijima and Ichihashi, there has been growing interest in the properties of the empty cylindrical space of tubular molecules in which the encapsulation of atoms or molecules is expected.[3] In fact, this space in SWNTs not only allows for inclusion[4]-[7] but is also a suitable site for chemical reactions.[6a], [7]
