摘要

The stability of a DNA double strand is based on the formation of hydrogen bonds between the nucleobases guanine and cytosine, and between adenine and thymine, as well as base stacking and hydrophobic interactions. In addition, the influence of the backbone is important: the pairing mode and egometric requirements for a base pair are restricted for topological reasons, whereas charge repulsion of the phosphodiester groups seems functionally important but has a destabilizing effect.
