The field of molecular magnetism has shown quite spectacular advances in the last decade. In particular ferro- and ferri-magnetic one-dimensional chain compounds based upon metal complexes have brought noteworthy success in the field of molecular design and synthesis, magnetism, and theoretical studies. However, although it is easier to design the structure and synthesis of one-dimensional rather: than two- or three-dimensional compounds, recent efforts have been directed at molecular design of multidimensional magnetic compounds, since the ferromagnetism itself is a three-dimensional property.
