摘要

The self-assembly of complementary fragments occurs throughout Nature iind plays an essential role in the construction of such biological "superstructures" as nucleic acids (for example their duplexes and complexes with peptides), multicomponent enzymes, cell membranes, and viral capsids. The structural informatitm required for facile self-assembly is preprogrammed in the topography and functionality of the building block surfaces. These small subuniis bind together reversibly through muluple weak noncovalent interactions.
