摘要

The luminous efficacy of LEDs has remarkably improved and already become higher than those of fluorescent lamps. LED lighting has been rapidly expanding in indoor and outdoor lighting because it contributes to energy saving by replacing conventional light sources with LED lamps and fixtures. The progress of LEDs is not only in the improvement of luminous efficacy but also in several aspects such as the improvement of color rendering and spectral power distributions. Spectral power distributions of LEDs can be easily controlled by combining several phosphors appropriately, or placing different types of LEDs on one luminaire because the sizes of LED packages are generally small. Spectral power distributions of light sources have various influences on color appearance, psychology and physiology of human beings, animals, insects, plants and the damages of illuminated objects. We can realize comfortable lighting spaces by taking the action spectra of light sources into consideration and selecting appropriate spectral power distributions in accordance with the various purposes.
