Diffusion and Development in Corrosion Science and Engineering

摘要

This article is based on the JSCE Society AwardLecture delivered at the ceremony of the Award presentation inrecognition of the author's contribution to diffusion anddevelopment of corrosion science and engineering. The first partreviews the history of research and development in corrosion asaffected by the change of society during the last one third of thecentury, in which the author served as a research engineer at thecorrosion laboratory of a steel company. Then follow author'sconcepts, developed through experience, of the significance ofcorrosion societies, "old boys network", research work inindustries, corrosion education, corrosion consultants,international cooperation, and intellectual property. Recentcontribution to the diffusion of corrosion protection technology ofburied utility piping, through which the author thinks he benefitedsociety most, is described in some details.
