Physicians are requested to prove their competence in ways that will restore trust in those who practice medicine. However, the process of restoring trust is a complex one and there are no guidelines as to how it can be accomplished. We do not even know what this loss of trust constitutes; is it frequent medical errors, deaths that could have been prevented, lack of capability in the practice of medicine, fatigue and stress, poor communication skills, or some other factor?
