US/China research seeks boll worm control

The US University of Arizona (UA - Tucson) and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Science (Beijing) have joined forces to study resistance in pink bollworms (Pectinophora gossypiella) in China. The five-year project is funded by a Yuan 2.95 million ($475,000) grant from China's National Science Foundation. A strong IPM programme in Arizona means that the state is hailed as the "poster child" for successful resistance management in a Bt crop, UA project leader, Professor Bruce Tabashnik says. "Pink bollworm is rare now in Arizona. We have very strong evidence that there is no resistance in the field," he notes.
