February daphne is a rare plant under partial legal protection in Poland, used as an ornamental shrub. Because the species is difficult to propagate, both by generative and vegetative methods, micropropagation is researched as a possible efficient propagation method. The aim of the investigations was to evaluate the effect of cytokinins on induction of axillary shoots formation and changes in the contents of selected organic compounds and stress parameters in shoots, and also to find an efficient auxin with proper concentration for shoot rooting. Woody Plant Medium was used in the experiments. For the phase of multiplication it was supplemented with meta-topoline (mT), N-6-benzyladenine (BA) or zeatin while a-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) and indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) were used for rooting of shoots. The best regeneration occurred on the medium enriched with meta-Topolin, which also increased the contents of chlorophyll and the sugars in the axillary shoots. IBA in a concentration of 4 and 5 mg l(-1) improved the rooting parameters more efficiently than NAA.
