Spatial Distribution of the Red Spider Mite, Oligonychus punicae Hirst, in Avocados at Two Municipalities of the State of Mexico

The avocado (Persea americana Mill.) is a perennial crop of economic importance, for its great acceptance in the national and international markets. However, it is susceptible to pests and diseases, among the most important is the red spider mite (Oligonychus punicae Hirst). If the distribution of the pest is known in orchards, the applications of agrochemicals can be directed which reduces costs, environmental pollution, residuality, among other benefits. The objective of this work was to determine the spatial distribution of red spider mite populations in two municipalities of the State of Mexico. Spatial behavior was identified through spatial statistics techniques (SADIE and geostatistics), with the SADIE indices, the spatial distribution was determined, in the case of geostatistics, maps of spatial distribution were prepared by means of krigeado and the estimation of the infested surface. The results indicate that red spider populations present an aggregate type distribution, adjusting to the Gaussian, Spherical, and Exponential models. This behavior was corroborated with the density maps. The infestations are not distributed 100% in the avocado plots, where there is little infestation, which would effectively control actions.
