Metabolites and Conidia of Beauveria bassiana for Control of a Darkwinged Fungus Gnat under Greenhouse Conditions

Bioinsectidal potential Beauveria bassiana (Balsamo) Vuillemin metabolites were evaluated on Bradysia impatiens (Johannsen) (Sciaridae) larvae, under laboratory conditions and with Pinus montezumae (Lamb) plants in a greenhouse. Results from the laboratory tests showed an insecticidal effect after 10 days of exposure with metabolites F 5-7, F 8-10, F 11-13, and an untreated check, killing 18, 20, 32, 20, and 12%. The insectistatic effect was evaluated between 11-30 days after treatment, producing 58, 70, 40, 60, y 12%. The symptomatology confirmed a greater insectistatic tan insecticidal effect, because exposure of the blackwinged fungus gnats to the metabolites increased their larval period, and pupae and adults were malformed. Under greenhouse conditions, 500 and 1000 ppm of the metabolites, protected 99.5, 97.5, and 100% of the P. montezumae plants 60 days after application. Conidia and metabolites of B. bassiana might be a biological alternative for control of B. impatiens in greenhouses.
