Ethernet-based data communications in the aerospace domain are becoming more and more important. Although Ethernet has been used in some military, commercial and research programs for a couple of years, the Airbus A380, A400M and the Boeing 787 programs have lifted this technology to another level of importance, mainly driven by the applications, which now rely on the Ethernet-based communication in those systems. These programs use the 100Mbit/s and 10Mbit/ s ARINC664/AFDX (Avionics Full Duplex Switched Ethernet) Standard based on the 'commercial' IEEE802.3 Specification, which has been modified to offer deterministic and fail-safe behavior of such networks.
