摘要

A joint filing at FERC on Dec. 11 filed by Algonquin Gas Transmission, LLC and Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline, LLC (CP16- 9), following a pattern of recent interstate gas pipeline company efforts to protect their pipeline projects from vocal local and environmentalist opposition, insisted they “sufficiently demonstrated” the need for their Atlantic Bridge Project, contrary to claims made by a long list of commenters. The companies emphasized they have entered into precedent agreements for long-term firm service for all of the project’s pipeline capacity. FERC “consistently held” that kind of commitment constitutes “strong evidence” there is market demand. The customers represent diverse market participants, including local distribution companies (LDCs), manufacturing companies and a municipal utility. Further evidence underscoring the need for the project includes rising demand for gas in the New England region, expected to increase by 13.5% by 2020, as well as the evolution of state initiatives intended to foster an expansion of natural gas pipeline infrastructure.
