Movements of Crude by the Railways Are Increasing and the Railways are Handling the Traffic, Says BNSF Railway Executive Chairman; Shippers on the Railways See a Different Picture, Says Consultant

According to BNSF Railway’s Executive Chairman Matt Rose, speaking at the Energy Information Administration’s (EIA’s) annual Energy 2015 conference in Washington, DC June 15-16, rail transportation is meeting the growth in North American oil production. On New Year’s Day 2009, BNSF ran its first train of Bakken crude, and since then the volume of shipments increased dramatically. In 2014, crude-by-rail handled about 25% of the increase in oil production, according to Rose.
