Macadamia - a promising edible nut for India

Macadamia, (Macadamia integrifolia Maiden & Betche, Family - Proteaceae), popularly known as Queensland or Australian nut, is a delicious and nutritious nut food of commercial importance. It is relatively a new crop plant and the only native food plant of Australia to achieve world status as a commercial crop. Commercial cultivation of this crop has taken place during last 50 years in Hawaii, U.S.A. Now it is the most important tree crop of Hawaii in acreage, production and value. More than 90 per cent of the world production of Macadamia nut is from Hawaii. The other Macadamia producing countries are Australia, South-Africa, Malawi, Costa Rica and Thailand.
