Organic fertilization and cultivation technique of strawberry grown in greenhouse.

The cultivation technique of strawberry grown in organic system and the differences between strawberry grown in organic or in conventional system were studied in the present greenhouse experiment. Strawberry plants (waiting bed, Fragaria x ananassaDuch. cv. 'Elsanta') were grown in four different growing media in a greenhouse: (A) a peat plate fertilized with manure (20 dm3/m3), growing media made of unfertilized peat, lime and manure (10 dm3/m3) covered with (B) a plastic sheet or (C) flax straw,(D) a conventionally fertilized (N:P:K; 4:2:3) peat plate. The vegetative growth and the quantity and quality of fruit yield were studied in the plants grown in each treatment. The leaf growth of strawberry plants and the fruit productivity was clearlylower using organic growth medium A. The organic growing media B and C promoted the leaf growth of strawberry plants but not the development of flowers. The fruit productivity was highest in conventional growing medium (D), but the difference was not significant. The fruit sucrose concentration in plants grown in growing medium A was significantly higher compared to other growing media. Half way through of the experiment, the macronutrient and the micronutrient concentrations in leaves were at optimal level in all growing media. By the end of the experiment, nitrogen, boron and zinc concentrations were low in growth medium C and D and copper concentration in all growing media used in the present experiment.
