The Why and How of the New European Union Prospectus Regulation

The new European Union (EU) Prospectus Regulation entered into force on 20 July 2017. While some of its provisions have already been applicable in the EU Member States for some time, the majority of the Regulation will become applicable in July 2019. The rather long period between the entry into force and the full application of the Regulation is necessary in order for the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) to help the European Commission to lay down the more granular Level 2 regulation and address the technical implementation of the new Prospectus Regulation.
