From Nuisance to State-of-the-Art: FDG-PET/CT Imaging of Infection and Inflammation

From the inception of FDG-PET imaging in oncology alleged false positive findings were considered a nuisance [1]. Since the millennium, the tide has changed and FDG-PET and FDG-PET/CT have become the methods of choice in multiple cancers. More recently, clinicians and nuclear medicine physicians have started recognizing the potential of FDG-PET imaging also in infectious and inflammatory disorders [2].
