Potted pleasure

Visitors to Glebe Cottage are sometimes surprised to see how wide a use we make of pots and containers. Although the garden isn't huge, it's bigger than average and you might suppose that with all its interlinking areas, numerous beds and separate plots, we'd be satisfied with the borders we've got. So why do we add containers at every opportunity?The reason isn't greed or a power-crazed desire to colonise and expand, it's simply that pots can do things that other kinds of gardening can't. It's also because I love creating totally different looks and indulging in new ideas every year. There's thechallenge of seeing how imaginative you can be on a budget, and growing as many of the pot ingredients yourself, too.
