摘要

The activation of small molecules is one of the key issues in heterogeneous catalysis. Common diatomic species, such as O2, H2 and N2, are chemically inert and require activation at elevated temperature and pressure. The associated barriers can be lowered with catalytically active metals that alter the stability of the molecules by electron transfer into their antibonding orbitals. Also reducible oxides offer suitable sites for molecular activation, such as surface O vacancies.
