microRNAs are short, non-coding RNA molecules that regulate gene expression in human, animal, and plant cells. They play important roles in diverse cellular functions, including development apoptosis, and signaling. In addition, clinical research has linked microRNA dysrcgula-tion to diseases such as diabetes, alzheimefs disease, and many forms of cancer. microRNA signatures have emerged as important new clinical biomarkers with both diagnostic and prognostic value.
