摘要

Solar water splitting is currently the subject of considerable attention as a potential inorganic path for renewable fuels. Although the product, hydrogen, can be applied directly as a fuel, a very promising direction is to use it as a key feedstock in the production of synthetic liquid fuels, such as those made by the Fischer-Tropsch method. Solar water splitting is achieved by using a semiconductor cell to straddle the water redox potential thereby donating holes and electrons at the anode and cathode, respectively.
