Higher amines are widely used in both the bulk and fine chemical industries as fundamental materials, additives, dyes, agrochemicals, etc. Therefore, the development of a selective N-alkylation method that is cost effective, salt free, and environmentally benign is of considerable interest. However, the most common strategies to produce secondary or tertiary amines involve treating a primary amine with an alkylating reagent having a good leaving group (RX: X -halide, OTs, OTf, etc.).
