Stimuli-responsive capped mesoporous materials have been demonstrated to be fascinating vehicles for the storage and controlled release of entrapped guests. Chemical triggers such as the presence of anions, small redox molecules, antigens, oligonucleotides, and enzymes have been used to develop gated materials with controlled-release features, but also physical stimuli such as light and temperature have attracted attention thanks to the possibility of remote activation.
