Interactions of metal complexes with DNA have been fascinating chemists for a long time. The discovery of the antitumor activity of cis-[PtCl2(NH3)2] (cisplatin) in the late 1960s and the subsequent investigation of its DNA-binding properties have certainly resulted in one of the best-known examples of metal-complex-DNA interactions, but that is by no means the only example.
