摘要

Substituted chiral pyrrolidine and proline derivatives are very important pharmaceuticals, natural products, organocatalysts, and building blocks in organic and diversity-oriented synthesis. In this context, biologically active highly substituted pyrrolidine derivatives containing a quaternary stereocenter (e.g. 1-4; Figure 1) are found in, and form the core of many pharmaceutical candidates and natural products. Multicomponent reactions that involve the formation of multiple carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bonds, and multiple stereocenters in one pot, is a rapidly growing area of research for the synthesis of small molecules that have complex molecular architectures. Multicomponent transformations reduce the synthetic steps, amount of waste produced, and amount of solvents required, which are important factors in "green" chemistry.
