Catenanes and related mechanically interlocked molecules have been regarded as intriguing candidates to serve as indispensable components for nanomachines and nanodevi-ces, since control over the relative motion of the components is possible by external stimuli, such as heat and light, which lead to changes in the catenanes' physical properties, such as conductivity, fluorescence, and circular dichroism (CD).
