摘要

Ammonia is a unique solvent that dissolves all the alkali metals, the alkaline-earth metals(Ca, Sr, and Ba), and the lanthanide metals(Eu and Yb).The alkali metal lithium, the alkaline-earth metals calcium, strontium, and barium, and the rare-earth elements europium and ytterbium all form compounds of the type Li(NH3)4 and Ca(NH3)6 that are best viewed as expanded metals, in which the metal atoms are spatially separated by the diluent(i.e.dielectric ammonia).
