摘要

Controlling the physical properties of materials with light irradiation represents an emerging field involving many different types of photoswitchable molecular systems. The photoswitching involves not only electronic excitation, but also a coupling with the structural degrees of freedom, which play a key role in stabilizing the excited state from us to days. In concert with these developments, photocrystallography has become a rapidly evolving branch of modern crystallography, which provides unique experimental access to structural information for molecules in electronically excited states.
