The reduction of molecular oxygen(O2)is a technologically important research topic,particularly in the context of a hydrogen economy.The O2 reduction reaction(ORR)can proceed by a direct four-electron reduction to produce water or a two-electron reduction to give hydrogen peroxide,with the former pathway being highly desirable for fuel cell applications.
