The combination of living structures with advanced materials,for example,as realized in cell-semiconductor coupling,or by using small biological forms as templates for nanotechno-logical applications,is becoming the focus of more and more interest.Composite materials consisting of magnetic or semiconducting nanoparticles incorporated into bacterial superstructures have been synthesized.
