GE Oil & Gas' remote monitoring center based at its Florence, Italy, headquarters is presently monitoring well over 500 machines in service all around the world. Of those machines, 220 are gas turbine-driven compressors. The center has been in operation for 10 years, and the collected operating data has been filed to build up a database that has allowed the company to tailor maintenance according to actual needs, offering tremendous customer advantages. This service is used to speed up commissioning operations, to answer specific "on the spot" customer requests or as a regular, ongoing service under long-term contract agreements.
