According to the EPA natural gas STAR program, level control devices used in the natural gas industry are among the leading offenders in methane gas emissions. That means that in today's business environment, operators seek systems and products that can be classified as "low emission." To be qualified as such, a system must release 6 scfh (0.17 m~3/hr) of methane gas or less under operating conditions. Many manufacturers are in the process of redesigning their equipment to reduce its emission-producing activities. FW Murphy's scrubber level system, featuring the LS200 dump valve operator, has been tested against voluntary star program regulations. Some states are adopting that standard as mandatory.
